Our expert teams will guide you through every step of the process from Architectural design through to on-site construction, handling the details so you can focus on the excitement of bringing your vision to life. We also have plots for sale if you are at the early stages of your self-build journey that we will be happy to show you around.

Architectural design

Our architectural design team will work with you to create a home that aligns with your personal vision as well as local planning requirements. With a fabric first approach to design our focus is meeting and exceeding the Future Homes Standard. Our process includes an initial site meeting with you, creation of concept sketches based on your site location and wish list and detailed planning and building regulation packages to ensure the safety and durability of your home.

We will work with you to maximise your plot's potential and your budget, working closely with you to refine designs and achieve planning approval. Our approach integrates sustainable, energy-efficient solutions like Passivhaus design for highly efficient homes.

High performance or Passivhaus homes

High performance timber frame homes are crafted to go beyond standard energy efficiency, focusing on exceptional insulation, airtightness, and energy-saving systems to reduce consumption and enhance comfort without necessarily adhering to a specific international standard. Passivhaus (Passive House) homes, however, follow a strict international standard, emphasising ultra-low energy use for heating and cooling, with rigorous requirements for insulation, airtightness, and energy-efficient systems, often eliminating the need for traditional heating. Our pre-insulated, Wrightwall/Roof and WrightWall/Roof Natural panel systems take this a step further, blending sustainable timber framing with advanced insulation and airtightness, ensuring high thermal performance and superior air quality.

All the Passivhaus and high-performance homes we build prioritise energy efficiency while integrating natural materials to offer a harmonious balance of modern performance and eco-conscious design. If you choose to build a Passivhaus home, WrightWall and WrightRoof Natural will be required.

Project management your way

Deciding on how you wish to project manage your self-build is a personal choice and depends what you want to get out of the experience as well as your budget, your time available and the level of responsibility you wish to take on. Routes include:

Traditional self-build

Where you, the homeowner take full control of every aspect of your self-build, managing key aspects such as hiring third party contractors, sourcing materials, overseeing trades and even carrying out some of the build work yourselves.

Self-project management

A self-build approach where you, the homeowner take on the role of project manager, overseeing the entire process from design to completion. This includes hiring and coordinating tradespeople, managing the budget, scheduling work, and ensuring compliance with building regulations. Unlike the traditional self-build approach, where you might undertake physical construction work, this method focuses on organisation and decision-making, allowing greater control over costs and quality while reducing reliance on a main contractor.

A builder as Principal Contractor

Appointing a builder as your Principal Contractor delegates site management, health & safety, and trade coordination to a professional, though regular site visits may still be needed; whether on a fixed price or staged basis, involving them early helps streamline planning and site preparation.

Full Turnkey

A full turnkey self-build means you make the decisions while an appointed project manager handles everything else. From design to construction, managing trades, permits, and materials, your dedicated turnkey manager will deliver your completed home ready for you to move in.
